Huis en Haard 3

Huis en Haard 3, located in The Hague, is a protected residential facility that offers adults with psychiatric conditions a safe and supportive living environment. This facility is managed by the Salvation Army. The aim of Huis en Haard 3 is to help residents return to society as independently as possible. This is achieved by offering support in building daily structure and finding suitable daytime activities. With 24-hour support, a stable foundation is created for personal growth and recovery. Thanks to the combination of professional care and a recovery-oriented approach, Huis en Haard 3 not only provides a safe environment but also offers concrete opportunities for a fresh start.

SMALL-SCALE

Huis en Haard 3 has capacity for 35 residents. The facility consists of 25 studios and ten apartments, meaning that each resident has their own private living space. The ten apartments are intended for residents who are able to live almost independently. As a result, despite exceeding the threshold of 30 residents, the facility is still described as small-scale.

DIFFERENTIATION

Huis en Haard 3 provides supported housing for both men and women. It focuses on people without permanent housing who are dealing with psychiatric problems. The target group consists mainly of people who reside in the facility on a voluntary basis. In addition, residents may also be placed under a forensic title (FT), although this is not the primary target group. Placement can take place either through probation services (the Salvation Army has its own probation service) or via the municipality.

At Huis en Haard 3, residents have a great deal of autonomy, which gives them the freedom to shape their own weekly schedules. Since most residents stay at the facility on a voluntary basis, the aim of their stay is to work toward full independence. This means that residents receive support while also being given space for personal choices and self-direction. Residents are guided in structuring their daily activities, with an emphasis on individualized, tailor-made support.

COMMUNITY-INTEGRATION

The residents of Huis en Haard 3 are equal members of the neighborhood and make use of the same services as other local residents. One example of the connection with the neighborhood is the shared community garden, which is maintained together with local residents. This project provides opportunities for collaboration, but it also presents challenges and requires effort from both sides to remain successful. In addition to the community garden, Huis en Haard 3 organizes activities to strengthen its relationship with the neighborhood, such as a summer festival and a neighborhood barbecue, where residents and local community members come together. Next to the facility is a church that is involved in social initiatives. Residents of Huis en Haard 3 regularly make use of these facilities and collaborate with the church, for example in organizing the neighborhood barbecue.
